Artist Profile
I began painting in 2000 after shifting a long held belief that I couldn’t paint and I couldn’t draw. With a number of major changes happening in my life around then, I was seeking some time out and following one of those chance visits to an artist’s studio in the Blue Mountains, I noticed this particular artist was running week long workshops in landscape painting. The idea of a week away in the beautiful Blue Mountains painting struck a romantic chord within me and I was naïve enough to ask “if you needed to be able to paint?”. “Yes” most definitely was the answer however something had shifted within me and with a new motivation I began opening to the idea, the possibility, that maybe I could learn. Maybe I could attend some evening classes. Maybe I could make a few mistakes in the process and just have a go.
And so I did. That was the beginning of my journey with painting.
After some workshops with Sarah Mumford, within a year I was off on the first of several week long retreats to the Blue Mountains, with artist, John Wilson. More recently I have been painting under the experienced guidance, support and encouragement of two other accomplished professional artists and wise souls, Lyn Hammond and Anne Bourne. I have also been developing my portrait skills studying with Nafisa Naomi, who recently won the Packers Prize at the 2010 Archibald Prize.
As a Life and Career Coach, I am familiar with the power of limiting beliefs and from my own personal experience know the freedom and liberation when you break through them.
I choose to use oils for their richness of character and flexibility.
I love the vividness of the colours and the moods that can be created by them.
Many of my paintings are inspired from family camping and bushwalking holidays taken to outback Australia; places like Uluru, Kata Juta, the MacDonnell Ranges, the Flinders Ranges, to Darwin and the Northern Territory and also within country Victoria and New South Wales.
I paint for the joy of it, to grow and for the expression of my soul.
I hope you enjoy my paintings as much as I have enjoyed the process of painting them.
